The United Utility Workers' Association of Canada (UUWA) and the United
Utility Workers Labour Organization Society (UUWLOS) respect the privacy
of our members. We have taken, and will continue to take, measures that
protect the privacy of personal information held by us.
We adhere to several principles regarding the collection, use, disclosure
and retention of personal information. In order to provide the services
and privileges to which members are entitled, the UUWA and UUWLOS must
collect, use and disclose information in relation to our members. When
we collect personal information, we may use or disclose the information
for any of the following "Purposes":
- Providing and managing services and privileges to members, former
members, or prospective members;
- Communicating with members and former members;
- Fostering goodwill and camaraderie;
- Managing accounting and information services;
We may use personal information to create aggregate information from
which individual member identities have been removed.
We will only use personal information to fulfill the purposes listed above.
We will retain the information for as long as it is needed to fulfill
the purposes listed above and/or as long as stipulated necessary by law,
and/or any applicable government regulations.
We may disclose personal information to representatives, service providers
or organizations that provide us with legal, professional, administrative
or information processing support services. We may also release information
to officers of the court, tribunals, employers, and/or employer legal
counsel as required in order to provide services to our members.
Members are entitled to access the personal information held by us concerning
them, subject to restrictions by law and/or where such release would affect
the rights, safety or property of other members/individuals and/or the
UUWA or UUWLOS. We will respond to requests for information in a reasonable
manner and time. Our response will generally be provided at no cost, however
charges relating to transcription, reproduction or transmission of personal
information may be applicable. Should charges apply, individuals making
the request will be informed in advance of the charges.
The UUWA and the UUWLOS makes every reasonable effort to ensure the accuracy
and currency of personal information to fulfill our Purposes. Affected
individuals should advise us of any change to personal information. We
will amend the information when it has been successfully demonstrated
to us that the information is inaccurate or incomplete.
Subject to legal or contractual restrictions, with reasonable notice,
individuals may withdraw their consent for the collection, use or disclosure
of their personal information. Such notice must be in writing to the UUWA
Privacy Officer.
